October is Fair Trade Month, Celebrate with Fair Trade Coffees All Month at BRC
Monday, September 29 is National Coffee Day! Be sure to stop in to Brooklyn Roasting Company and celebrate with us. We are honored to bring you the best quality Fair Trade, Rainforest Alliance, and Organic certified and sustainable coffees. National Coffee Day falls on the perfect day as it helps us usher in October, which is Fair Trade Month. We will be showcasing Fair Trade coffees in our cafe all month.
Brooklyn Roasting Company is very committed to the Fair Trade movement and sustainability in our coffee sourcing. The impact our Fair Trade premiums has made on farms and co-operatives is evident. A few projects that our Fair Trade premiums applied from 2013 have helped to address include:
In PERU at Cenfrocafe and Cepicafe (appox. 3,000 members, not including wives and children): Leaf Rust Mitigation initiatives, New species development and beekeeping facility for off-season income, Building uterine cancer and Women's Health facilities for all female members and wives and children of male members.
In INDONESIA at Permata Gayo (approx 3,000 members): Food assistance for coop-members during off-harvest season, Organic production training seminars, and Harvesting equipment upgrades.
In ETHIOPIA at Sidama Coop Union (70,000+ members!): Road works that improve access across 5 districts, Electricity Line installation for 5,000 residents and 3 schools built.
